Mike Sullivan Memorial Scholarship

Sep 2010

Mike was a dear friend and dedicated employee at Harrington Bank. He served as a Customer Service Representative at our headquarters in Chapel Hill before being promoted to a Customer Service Manager position at our Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd location. Last fall, Mike transferred to our Falls River location in Raleigh. Mike always had a smile on his face and truly enjoyed assisting the Bank and our customers. Mike died tragically in Raleigh on March 13, 2010 as a back seat passenger of a car struck by an impaired driver. He was only 24 years old.

Mike graduated from Charlotte Catholic High School in 2003. In his memory, The Michael Sullivan Scholarship was established to recognize an individual student attending Charlotte Catholic High School (CCHS) who embodies a personal lifestyle mirroring that of Michael's, namely, above average interpersonal skills (exemplary personal outreach to classmates and/or peers in the community), as well as a very strong work ethic (working part time while attending CCHS).

A student interested in receiving the scholarship award may apply personally or be nominated by a classmate, family member, or employer. The applications will be reviewed by Debbie Wolfe (Mike's mom), who will make the recommendation for the scholarship award recipient, receiving input from CCHS school guidance counselors.

The scholarship award of $2000 will be presented at the Senior Awards ceremony and will be payable directly to the college, university, or advanced educational institution of the recipient's choice. Funding for this award comes from Harrington Bank and a generous contribution of matching funds by Mike's mother, both for a minimum of five years.
